Jarrah (eucalyptus marginata)

jarrah is the aboriginal name for the australian eucalyptus tree. a hard, dense and heavy timber, which was also known as swan river mahogany due to the similarity of mature aged jarrah to mahogany.

Because of its strength and resistance to rot and termites jarrah is much used in construction, and many of the united kingdoms roads were built using large jarrah blocks in the base which were then covered in asphalt. Also used in the making of musical instruments and hot tubs. The jarrah flowers make an aromatic honey.

Freshly milled jarrah is a combination of rich dark red brown with deep chocolate making this a very striking floor when freshly milled and laid. Over the months and years it matures to a wonderful dense russet brown. The figure is exceptional with high arches on almost every board.

A handsome masculine wood which will appeal to those who desire something different and special. For striking contemporary interiors. Stunning in minimal kitchens with bulthaup or siematic units and marble worktops.
