iroko is a very strong, hard and durable
african timber. much admired for a fine
handsome sweeping figure, and deep
golden toffee brown colour which has
a distinctive surface lustre. occasional
darker brown figure and striking black
knots add to the beauty of this exotic
hardwood.
iroko sometimes presents the phenomenon
of having a “stone” in the centre of a log!
this is caused by a build up of calcium
carbonate deposits. these “stones” can
sometimes be very large.
a masculine wood which is used extensively
for boatbuilding and high class joinery, where
strength and longevity is required. Also for
worktops where a darker timber than beech is
required.
a superb timber for entrance halls, dining rooms
or librarys. traditonal or classic drawing rooms
where a darker timber but with a lighter feel is
specified.
