merbau is a hard and heavy asian timber
utilised throughout asia for heavy construction
work, docks, jetties etc. because of it strength
qualities and a resistance to sea water.
in the pacific islands traditionally used
for the post beams of long houses, and
for the main hull, masthead and steering
oars of the large ocean going canoes.
merbau contains tannin a dye used in
industry.
a rich warm russet brown timber with
gold undertones and the merbau
signature shimmering golden fleck
throughout the grain. a timber without
heavy figuring for that client which prefers
a more subtle dark wood.
merbau is a distinctively masculine timber,
for any room or style of interior. it is very
versatile due to the subtlety of figuring and
neutral brown colour. for georgian period
interiors where a more sophisticated wood
than oak is preferred. merbau’s colour and
patina is a perfect partner for faded georgian
furniture.
