siberian tiger oak is a spectacular variation
of native european oak, which is seen at its
finest in the russian or baltic state oaks. The
cold climate brings slower growth and dense
close grained timber with a wonderful amber,
cream and biscuit variation.
the figure has been compared to marble, but
it can also have the appearance of the earths
different strata layers. Like fossilised rock
interlaced with amber, which is very apt, as
amber is fossilised wood.
like all native oaks, it is tough, hard, strong
and durable. but the extra colour variation
makes it very good for busy areas such as
kitchens and family rooms. The colour, figure
grain and knotting disguises dirty foot (and
paw!) marks.
siberian tiger oak is the ideal contemporary
alternative to pitch pine, being much harder
and less “wild” in base colour. It works well
in traditional irish vernacular buildings with
simple neutral farmhouse interiors. white
or ivory painted kitchens. as a statement in
minimal interiors, or stunning in entrance
halls where there is a preference for a less
hard and cold surface as tiles or marble,
but where a dramatic statement is required.
it blends beautifully with traditional quarry
tiles, the russet tones of slate. to compliment
ivory painted kitchens and cream aga! as a
natural partner for cherry or fruitwood
furniture. simply a delicious and unusual
variation of oak.
