siberian tiger oak (quercus)

siberian tiger oak is a spectacular variation of native european oak, which is seen at its finest in the russian or baltic state oaks. The cold climate brings slower growth and dense close grained timber with a wonderful amber, cream and biscuit variation.

the figure has been compared to marble, but it can also have the appearance of the earths different strata layers. Like fossilised rock interlaced with amber, which is very apt, as amber is fossilised wood.

like all native oaks, it is tough, hard, strong and durable. but the extra colour variation makes it very good for busy areas such as kitchens and family rooms. The colour, figure grain and knotting disguises dirty foot (and paw!) marks.

siberian tiger oak is the ideal contemporary alternative to pitch pine, being much harder and less “wild” in base colour. It works well in traditional irish vernacular buildings with simple neutral farmhouse interiors. white or ivory painted kitchens. as a statement in minimal interiors, or stunning in entrance halls where there is a preference for a less hard and cold surface as tiles or marble, but where a dramatic statement is required. it blends beautifully with traditional quarry tiles, the russet tones of slate. to compliment ivory painted kitchens and cream aga! as a natural partner for cherry or fruitwood furniture. simply a delicious and unusual variation of oak.
