sipo is a handsome african hardwood
member of the mahogany family which
grows in the high forests of the ivory coast
and cameroons, with the same beautiful
colour and figure as the fine honduras and
cuban mahoganies.
sipo is a pale peachy russet when freshly
sawn, and then becomes first warm russet
red and finally a deep rich warm russet
brown with occasional deep gold undertones.
the surface is satin smooth and has an
attractive subtle surface shimmer.
an ideal timber if minimal tonal variation,
virtually no knotting and subtle figure are
preferred.
traditionally used for high class joinery,
flooring and fine reproduction furniture.
sipo is a wonderful timber for light domestic
areas. so beautiful in feminine bedrooms, or
elegant drawing rooms with fluid silks where
a timber with reddish tones is preferred.
